Medina gala is quite tasty By Betty O'Neill-Roderick Special to the Beacon Journal Medina-area restaurants presented their finest food Thursday evening at the 16th annual Taste of Medina at Weymouth Country Club. Barbara Dzur chaired the fundraiser for the United Way of Medina County. She joked with Curtis Perkins: ``You won't need to bring your truck, because we won't have any leftovers.'' Nancy and Roger Hassler greeted more than 600 guests, who sampled delicious food from 16 area restaurants. Kristin and Chris Weight recommended the pecan squash tart served by Gary Quesada of Main Street Cafe, while Susan North served pumpkin praline trifle to Suzanne Heiszek, Bill Kovalchik and Darrell Jenkins. Ken Collins of the Medina Steakhouse offered filet au poivre to Dave and Beverly Kreiner as Mark Kalix and Mike Carswell of River Styx Grille at Blue Heron served salmon over sweet potatoes to Jerry Klembarsky. Chefs Louie Lusardo and Bret Young of Rustic Hills Country Club were ready for Thanksgiving, serving roast turkey with sausage and sage dressing and merlot cranberry sauce. Betty Bres, Cindy Fuller and Terry Pfleiderer looked over the variety of huge baskets available in the raffle. Ticket sellers Danyell Boyd, Debbie Kiley and Linda Schade made sure everyone bought a chance. Lori Pilot called her mother, Carmela Markosky, to sample the bread pudding from the Oaks Lodge; Halle Nagy served cranberry and chicken salad for Miss Molly's Tea Room; and 10-year-old chef James Chaplin assisted at the Lagerheads smokehouse. Emcee Debra Lynn-Schmitz, 2006 campaign chairwoman, reminded the audience that all donations stay in the community, and thanked Rich Kovach and Weymouth Country Club for donating the facility. Lisa Kerr and Joe Faga presented Taste of Medina Charger Plates to participating restaurants. Executive director Julie King expected the event would raise more than $40,000 for the United Way of Medina County.
